The BBC’s Listening Project, which gives people the opportunity to have a conversation with a loved, friend or colleague broadcast, is currently in Derry.

The Project’s mobile recording booth will be on the City Walls at the Verbal Arts Centre (off Bishop Street) to record the conversations.

As well as being broadcast on BBC 4 and BBC Radio Ulster/Foyle, the recordings will be available on CD to everyone who takes part.

Producer Conor McKay explained how the Listening Project works.

He said: “We record a conversation between two people who know each other; you can talk about anything you like, but we encourage you to talk about something close to your heart, an issue that is important to you, or something you are passionate about.

“We will help guide you through the entire process. We’ll talk it through in advance to help you decide what you would like to talk about, and who you might like to talk to.

“You can talk for as long as you like, but generally it takes around 30 minutes to an hour.

“All conversations are stored forever in the British Library – in hundreds of years, our ancestors will be able to listen to the conversations recorded in Derry~Londonderry in 2015.

“It’s an opportunity to talk about something you really care about, and to record a living, breathing piece of oral history.”
