Beloved pet cat 'mauled to death' by unmuzzled dog

'Mauled to Death' just yards from home in Maghera
Jacqueline Crilly’s 12 year-old cat Sheldon was her world.
Jacqueline said her cat was her 'rock throughout her life', particularly after losing her mum.
However this week, the Maghera woman is mourning the loss of her beloved pet, who was 'mauled to death' just yards from her home last Wednesday.
“He was so loyal, he never went far. He was waiting for us to come home when he was mauled to death 50 yards from our front door,” explained Jacqueline.
The south Derry woman said the dog, who attacked Sheldon, was on a lead but it’s muzzle was off as it had been out hunting.
“The owner said the cat had attacked his dog so he held the lead and let it maul my cat to death,” said Jacqueline, who described the scene as 'horrific'.
Jacqueline claims that the dog owner 'proceeded to then carry poor Sheldon’s body and throw him over a hedge' before leaving the area.
She is not sure if Sheldon was still alive or dead at the time.
“We live in a quiet estate with kids, cats and dogs. The owner of the dog doesn’t live here,” she explained, adding that she is finding it extremely difficult to forgive this attack.
“The owner has no heart and just wants to hunt and kill,” she said.
Jacqueline stated that it isn’t the first time that a pet has been attacked in the area.
She has expressed her worry for this situation saying: “This could have easily been a child or any other animal killed.”
