A big-hearted Derry girl has had her long hair cut to support the Little Princess Trust.

Nine-year-old Lucy Walker got 12-14 inches of her hair cut at Canon Kelly Memorial Hall surrounded by her family and fellow Brownies.

Lucy raised over £600 through her fundraising efforts and her hair will be used to make wigs for young girls suffering from cancer.

The Little Princess Trust provide real hair wigs, free of charge, to boys and girls across Britain and Ireland that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Lucy’s Mum Allison said that Lucy had decided to donate her hair after learning about the Little Princess Trust and the work they do.

“We saw the Little Princess Trust advertised and were talking about it amongst ourselves, we said to Lucy that it would be a great achievement for her to support the charity.

“The wigs cost the charity over £300 but they give them to children for free.

“To date Lucy has raised over £600 through our justgiving page and a number of fundraising activities.”

Lucy has been working hard to raise money to support the charity.

“She has done everything herself, she has gone around the doors fundraising and took her sister.

“She did a car boot sale on the Strand Road last Sunday morning along with her daddy and sister and the people on the other stalls raised £120 between them to support Lucy.

“They were really good to her and pushed the boat out for her because they thought it was for a brilliant cause.

“We have also had great support from Amber Hairshop, Glendermott Parish Church, Dillons Hotel, Letterkenny and the Western Trust.”

Lucy’s Brownie group helped organise the event.

“We decided to do it through the Brownies as Lucy is a member of the Glendermott Parish Brownies and they can take part and get their charity event badge out of it.

“It gives us the opportunity to promote Little Princess Trust through the Brownies.

“We talked about it but she decided this was something she wanted to do, she recognised it would be good to help people and was so excited to get her hair cut.”
