Tomorrow’s meeting of Derry City and Strabane Council has been cancelled as a mark of respect following the weekend tragedy in Buncrana which claimed the lives of five members of a Derry family.

Confirming the meeting, due to take place in the Guildhall at 4.00pm, had been postponed a council spokesperson said: “Further to the recent tragic incident at Buncrana, Thursday’s Council meeting shall not proceed as a mark of respect to the local families involved and to allow members the opportunity to attend the funerals.

“The reconvened meeting will take place on Monday 4 April 2016 at 4.00pm and all business listed in the previous circulated agenda will be carried forward to this meeting.”

Meanwhile, floral tributes (pictured) continue to be left at Buncrana pier, the scene of Sunday evening’s tragic accident which claimed the lives of Sean McGrotty, his two young sons Mark and Evan, his partner’s mother Ruth Daniels and her teenage daughter Jodie-Lee.

They will be laid to rest together in Derry’s City Cemetery tomorrow afternoon following a 2.00pm funeral service in the Church of the Holy Family in Ballymagroarty.
