Derry City and Strabane District Council is preparing a business case to assess the potential for the future development of Prehen Boathouse on Victoria Road on the outskirts of the city.

Plans to re-develop the boathouse (pictured) include the re-design of the building .

It comes amidst calls for more to be done to exploit the tourism potential of River Foyle following the success of the Foyle Maritime Festival.

A council spokesperson said the business case would also look at what activities could be hosted at the facility.

“A design scheme has been produced and is currently being reviewed on the project,” the spokesperson said.

“The business base currently being prepared for the project will assess the viability of options moving forward that will determine the future use and activities that could be accommodated at the site.”

The spokesperson added an updated report was expected to come before the council’s Health and Communities committee in the coming months.
