Children across Derry are being encouraged to Try-A-Tri this weekend.
The Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum is working in partnership with the Danny Quigley Fund to encourage primary school children currently in P6 and P7 to take part in the Caina Healey Children's Try-a-Tri.
It is an event to remember the life of Caina, who was originally from Derry but was a teacher and athlete living in Abu Dhabi before her life was tragically cut short.
The Health Forum said: “Caina was passionate about sports and was always encouraging children and young people to improve their lives by getting more active.
“Inspired by the life Caina lived, we are hosting this Children’s Try-a-Tri in her honour, to encourage more children to improve their fitness and mental health and to support each other to live healthier lives.”
The event will consist of a 50m swim, a two-mile cycle, and a one-mile run.
In the run-up to the event, schools across Derry have been visited by Danny Quigley and those involved to encourage as many children as possible to take part on Friday.
They said: “If you would like to have your child involved, please speak to your school and ask if they have registered for this awesome event.”
