A special community carol service was performed at St Columb’s Cathedral in Derry.

The service was one of 12 that took place across the UK in support of The Princess of Wales returning to Westminster Abbey to host a special Christmas carol service, which is being aired on ITV1 at 7.45pm this Christmas Eve.

Hosted by Lord-Lieutenants and supported by The Royal Foundation, these services were also supported by Hobbycraft and Co-op through the provision of items to enhance guest experiences and help create magical community events, including refreshments, decorations and gifts.

This year, the Westminster Abbey Service linked to Her Royal Highness’ Shaping Us campaign showcased the hope of new life and why it is so important to build supportive, nurturing worlds around children and the adults in their lives.

The 12 community carol services, including St Columb’s Cathedral, were bespoke to the locations they are in and provide a moment for people to come together at Christmas time and celebrate community work during the festive season. The services were an opportunity to share a special thank you to those who are supporting the youngest children in our society in those crucial early years.

Guests who attended this special service were invited by the Lord-Lieutenant, in recognition of the support they are providing to children and families in their community.

Dominic Jordan, CEO at Hobbycraft, comments “We were delighted and very proud to support the Together at Christmas community carol services this year. The Hobbycraft store in the local area provided craft kits for children to enjoy, as well as Christmas decorations to help decorate the churches and create magical community events.”

Amanda Berry, CEO, The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, comments “I am delighted that these community carol services were a part of our Together at Christmas initiative. Christmas is a time for being with others, and for remembering the hope that new life brings.

"The community carol services across the UK provided a wonderful opportunity to thank those incredible individuals helping the youngest members in our society in those crucial early years. We know just how important it is to build supportive, nurturing worlds around children and the adults in their lives.”
