Alan Barry Woods (58) of Tullykeeran Gardens in Maghera appeared charged with breaching his bail by being in contact with a woman

Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how after police received a call from a woman claiming 'he is going to beat me, he is going to kill me' they traced the call and found a couple in bed and the man was in breach of his bail conditions.

Alan Barry Woods (58) of Tullykeeran Gardens in Maghera appeared charged with breaching his bail by being in contact with the woman.

Police had to break into the address after the phone call and found Woods in bed with the woman.

An officer told the court that the defendant and the woman were both 'high risk' and there were 74 incidents between them.

He objected to bail as police believed Woods would not adhere to conditions as he had breached bail on 21 occasions.

The officer said Woods had been released on High Court bail on September 19 with a clear warning not to breach it.

A defence barrister Stephen McNicholl told the court there were no visible injuries on the woman but there were on his client and he would be making a complaint.

He accepted there was 'a significant history' between the pair.

District Judge Barney McElholm said that the High Court had made it very clear he was to have no contact with the woman. He said that the defendant had not adhered to conditions and refused bail.

Woods was remanded in custody to appear again on October 9.
