Creggan Country Park to hold free wildlife event next week

A free wildlife event will take place at Creggan Country Park to raise awareness on local biodiversity.
The Park will celebrate all things wild on Wednesday 9th August between 1pm and 4pm.
Debbie Doolittle’s Wild Life will let visitors get up close to nature including a rescued fox, owl, rabbits and birds. Debbie Nelson is a wildlife rehabilitator who spends her time travelling the country rescuing wild animals and helping them get back to full health.
Last year she rescued 1,089 animals and released 843 of them after they had recovered.
Visitors can also visit wildlife information stalls including Northern Ireland Badger Group and North West Red Squirrel Group and learn how they can help protected species.
The Northern Ireland Bat Group will be on hand to show some of their rescued bats and debunk the common myths that surround these amazing mammals.
Other activities on the day include:
-Bug hunt and games in the new nature hub
-Make a wildlife mask
-Wildlife story telling in the tepee
-Self-led nature themed treasure hunt
-Edible art workshop with a local artist
-Families can make their own bird box (first come, first serve)
Creggan Country Kitchen are hosting a special BBQ on the day and items are only £2. Picnic areas are available around the 100-acre site if you prefer to enjoy your own packed lunch in the great outdoors.
This is a free event thanks to funders Big Lottery Fund Awards for All, Derry City and Strabane District Council, Live Here Love Here and Department for Communities.
