Creggan looks to the future with new Factory Wall project

People living in the Creggan area have come together for an exciting new art project which is aimed at transforming the entrance to the estate.
'The Factory Wall' Eastway Wall Art Project is a major arts regeneration initiative designed to create a welcoming Gateway to the Creggan Estate.
The wall showcases former Derry City stars Ryan McBride and Mark Farren, old photos from the area and covers topics like internet safety and bullying.
The project included representatives from St Cecilia's College, St Joseph's Boys' School and local community groups.
Creggan Enterprises spokesperson Conal McFeely talked about the inspiration behind the project.
"The project came at a good time as part of our 70 years of Creggan celebrations," he said.
"It's a milestone and a chance to showcase our community ideas on the old Factory Wall.
"We feel like it shows the talent and potential within our community.
Mr McFeely said that the project looked back and to the future.
"It gives us a chance to mark the last 30 years," he said.
"It gave the community the chance to express what Creggan is to them in an artistic way.
"We hope it will also attract tourists as it feeds into sites already in the city like the Walls, Free Derry Corner and the Museum of Free Derry."
Mr McFeely said that Rath Mor has now become a key part of the community.
"We have built a sustainable community at Rath Mor," he said.
"It goes right back to the 60's with the old BSR and the factories in the area. It shows while that was transient Rath Mor has worked for the area and the people.
"We have community ownership and it's now an economic hub.
"We're all delighted with the project and we couldn't have done it without the support of the local community."
Mr McFeely said he would like to thank local schools, community groups and everyone who supported the art project.
