Derry and Strabane council buildings to be lit up in solidarity with Palestine

Sinn Féin councillor Sandra Duffy has welcomed support for a proposal to light up council buildings for the people of Gaza on the UN Day of Solidarity with Palestine.
Speaking after councillors backed the proposal, Sandra Duffy said:
“Next Wednesday, 29 November, council buildings will be lit up in the colours of Palestine to mark the UN International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people.
“It is important we send a message that Derry supports the Palestinian people, and we again call for a full and unequivocal ceasefire.
“The ongoing savagery against the people of Gaza, and the humanitarian catastrophe that has unfolded over the last six weeks across the West Bank and Israel must end now.
“Over 5,500 children are now dead in Gaza, thousands of mothers will never see their children grow old, and whole families have been torn apart and displaced from their homes.
“The barbaric attacks and collective punishment against the civilian population in Gaza by the Israeli military are war crimes. They are not self-defence.
“Only a peace process, dialogue, international law and an end to the occupation can deliver peace and Palestinian freedom. That must start with a full ceasefire and the release of all hostages.”
