Derry camogs secure second All-Ireland intermediate title
Derry clinch title at second time of asking
Derry 1-17
Meath 1-9
A storming start and finish saw Derry secure a second All-Ireland intermediate title in Saturdays replay in Clones.
A goal from substitute Shannon O’Connor ensured it was a Derry day after Meath clawed their way back from five points down.
Derry were 0-3 to 0-1 after 10 minutes but Meath hit four points in quick succession before the Oaks stepped on the gas again.
Aoife Shaw, Dervla O’Kane and Mary Hegarty added points as Derry pushed 0-9 to 0-6 ahead at the break.
Eimear McGuigan lofted over with Derry’s first score of the second half in the first attack and when Mairead McNicholl blasted over for a 0-12 to 0-7, PJ O’Mullan’s side were in control.
A Minogue penalty, followed by a Sonia Leonard point had the margin back to the bare minimum.
This time it was different. Shaw and Hegarty hit points and O’Connor finished to the Meath net, the cup was on its way north.
