Derry City Ladies crowned champs without kicking a ball
Derry City Ladies have been crowned champions of the Northern Ireland Women’s Football Association (NIWFA) Championship after their opponents Valley Rangers Ladies forfeited their game due to played tonight.
The Derry girls only needed a point from the clash - City's last game of the season - to clinch the title.
As a result, the Candy Stripes will make history next season when they will compete in the NIWFA Premier Division for the first time.
Clinching the title means Liam McKinney’s side completed a treble, having already won the Ballymena Ladies Cup and Foyle Cup tournaments earlier in the season.
And they could make it a quadruple as they play Lisburn Ladies in the Championship League Cup final on 4 September next.
