Elected members highlight the dedication required to hit top marks so early on

Derry City and Strabane District Council elected representatives have praised Creggan Community Collective following their recent successful Quality Control Audit.

During a report to April’s Health and Community Committee, members were told that an Advice Panel meeting took place on February 24 and the group was awarded a gold rating.

SDLP councillor Brian Tierney said he was impressed by the rating, especially considering that the Collective is a relatively new organisation.

“The Quality Control Audit is quite difficult and for Creggan Community Collective who, if we’re going to be honest, aren’t that long in existence; aren’t doing advice that long to get a gold standard so early on is a massive achievement for them and I would like to congratulate them in getting that.”

People Before Profit councillor Shaun Harkin also congratulated the group and said their creation had ‘not been a straightforward process’.

“There was an attempt to undermine their achievement and force them to re-do their pilot, even though they had met the standard that we called on them to meet, which I think was very, very unfair,” he clarified.

“They’ve now demonstrated that they’re more than capable and committed to delivering advice services.

“All of our advice services have people there that work very, very hard, and we know that people in our district desperately need these services, so it’s good to see an organisation do so well and be able to meet the gold standard and I want to commend them on that achievement.”
