Rosemary McDonagh (45) of Orr Park in Newtownstewart was charged with the offences that occurred on October 2, 9 and 12 2023
A woman has appeared at Derry Derry Magistrate's Court charged with a spree of thefts that occurred in October 2023.
Rosemary McDonagh (45) of Orr Park in Newtownstewart was charged with the offences that occurred on October 2, 9 and 12 2023.
On October 2 2023, McDonagh went into McCafferty's Chemist and put a number of items with a value of £49.04 into a pram, making no attempt to pay for them.
On October 9 2023, she entered Tesco in Quayside with a group of females.
She again had a pram and again put a number of items into it before walking out and setting off the alarms in the shop.
The stolen items were valued at £63.
Finally, on October 12 2023, McDonagh entered SuperValu in Limavady and stole items valued at £23.83, once again putting them into a pram and attempting to walk out.
Defence barrister Kieran Roddy said that these thefts appeared to be premeditated, but said that the stolen items were all household items.
He said that she has a 'lengthy and relevant record' with her most recent offence prior to this occuring in 2019, where she received a suspended sentence.
She was sentenced to six months in custody, suspended for two years and ordered to pay compensation orders to the value of the stolen items to each of the shops.
