Derry Court: Man turned down Carlisle Road wrong way when one way system in place

Accused fined and given three penalty points
When a man turned down Carlisle Road the wrong way when the one way system was in place, a member of the public flagged him down to point out his error Derry Magistrate's Court heard on Friday.
Patrick Edgar (68) of Glenside Road in Derry was convicted of a series of driving offences that occurred on August 25 2022.
The court heard that Edgar came to the top of Bridge Street and turned left onto Carlisle Road against the then one way system.
A member of the public flagged him down to tell him he was going the wrong way.
Edgar parked in a lay by and said to the man 'get out of my way or I will punch your lights out.'
The other man used his van to try and stop Edgar driving away and the defendant struck that vehicle as he drove away.
When questioned about the incident he said the other person had been aggressive with him.
Defence counsel Fergal McCormack said his client now accepted he was wrong about the one way system.
He said that the collision that had occurred was 'very minor' in nature.
Deputy District Judge Liam McStay said that Edgar 'in the cold light of day' accepted he was wrong about the one way system.
He said that on the day in question he had not been prepared to accept that and had used his vehicle to 'try and get out of the situation.'
Edgar was fined a total of £425 and given three penalty points.
