Derry Court: Mother's will resulted in dispute between two brothers

Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how a mother's will resulted in a dispute between two brothers.
Ryan Burke (45) of Faughanview Park in Claudy admitted a charge of a course of action that amounted to domestic abuse on dates between August 1 and December 12 2022.
The court heard that the injured party complained to police about the behaviour of his brother with whom he shared a house.
There was an ongoing civil matter about the ownership of the house following the death of Burke's mother when she had left the house to the defendant's sister.
The injured party said that Burke was 'aggressive' towards him on a daily basis standing outside his room shouting abuse.
The defendant was described by his brother as 'volatile' and had thrown kitchen objects around the house.
The course of behaviour had been going on for a period of 12 months.
Defence solicitor Paddy McDaid said his client had moved out of the house and there had been no incidents since.
The solicitor said that his client accepted that his behaviour was unacceptable.
Burke was sentenced to 6 months in prison suspended for 2 years.
