A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with driving at 106 miles per hour.

Dean McDaid (23) of Moss Park in Derry was charged with the offences that occurred on the A6 road on March 23 this year.

Defence solicitor Kevin Casey said that there had been no other road users at the time of the incident and said that the only person put at risk was McDaid himself.

District Judge Ted Magill said that McDaid had a clear record and no points on his license but added that his speed was 'far too high', disqualifying him for three months and fining him £250.
