The funeral of the young Co Derry man killed in Monday’s two-vehicle collision on the main Derry to Dungiven road will take place on Friday.

Ryan McCaul, from Drum, died following the crash involving his car and a van at Foreglen Road, just two miles from his home, just after 6.30am.

It is believed the mechanical engineer was making his way to his work at E&I Engineering in Bridgend, Co Donegal, when the crash occurred.

In recent years, the 31-year-old (pictured) took part in the New York and Chicago marathons to raise funds for Action Cancer - a charity which was close to his heart.

Having overcome cancer three times as a child, he was committed to raising funds for the organisation.

He also survived a car crash which left him fighting for his life in 2004.

His remains will be taken from his home at 189 Drum Road in Dungiven for 11.00am Requiem Mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Gortnaghey.

He will be laid to rest in adjoining cemetery.
