Derry groups encouraged to be part of Positive Ageing Month

The programme is led by Derry City & Strabane District Council, in partnership with the Western Health & Social Care Trust and the Public Health Agency
Planning is now underway for this year’s Positive Ageing Month in October and local organisations are being invited to get involved in creating an exciting programme of activities for the older community.
The programme is led by Derry City & Strabane District Council, in partnership with the Western Health & Social Care Trust and the Public Health Agency. The aim is to provide a diverse and inclusive programme of events and experiences throughout October for older people right across the City and District.
Looking ahead to the programme, Mayor of Derry and Strabane, Councillor Ruairí McHugh, encouraged local groups to take the opportunity to engage with local older people.
“We have a very active older community here in Derry and Strabane who are looking for opportunities to engage in activities and learn new skills. Positive Ageing Month gives local organisations the chance to connect with that audience and ensure they have access to a wide range of services, activities and programmes to enrich and support local people as they age.
“I would really encourage local groups to get involved, and be part of Positive Ageing Month this October.”
Age Friendly Officer with Council, Pauline O’Neill, explained more: “Positive Ageing Month is the perfect platform for engaging with the older community. Any organisation that would like to offer a session or link in with others, with an event geared towards older people or promoting intergenerational engagement is more than welcome to get in contact.
“We aim to create a diverse and exciting programme this year which will provide a whole host of opportunities and experiences across our Council area.”
The deadline for submissions is Wednesday 30th July and can be made to [email protected]
