Caolan Roberts (24) of Greenwalk in Derry admitted a series of charges including cycling while unfit through drink or drugs

A solicitor told Derry Magistrate's Court today that a charge of cycling while unfit did not refer to the fact the rider was overweight or not fit but meant excess alcohol.

Caolan Roberts (24) of Greenwalk in Derry admitted a series of charges including cycling while unfit through drink or drugs on the Skeoge Road on July 28 this year.

He also admitted a charge of failing to stop for police on the same date and a charge of possessing class A drugs.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that he did not have a driving licence nor was one required.

The court heard that the penalty for cycling while unfit was a fine up to £1,000.

The case was adjourned until September 11 to allow the defendant to appear.
