Niall Martin (41) of Caw Close in Derry faced charges relating to an alleged assault on his former partner on January 28
A man who is accused of breaching his bail within hours of being released by contacting his former partner has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrates' Court.
Niall Martin (41) of Caw Close in Derry faced charges relating to an alleged assault on his former partner on January 28.
The woman claimed Martin asked to spend the night in her bedroom and when she refused he pushed her into a clothes horse.
He left the property but returned and police found him in the back garden.
The court heard that Martin had been granted High Court bail on February 5 but only released last Friday.
The alleged victim in the case said he started to contact her almost immediately upon his release and had continued overwhelmed weekend.
Martin was also charged with breaching his bail by not being at his address when G4S arrived to fit the electronic equipment.
A police officer opposed bail stating Martin was 'a high risk domestic abuse offender' with 10 previous convictions.
She said that the woman 'clearly wanted to remove herself from the relationship' but Martin didn't.
Defence counsel Stephen Chapman said his client had instructed him that he had not contacted the woman.
He said as regards the bail breach Martin said he had been released too late to get the keys to his bail address.
Deputy District Judge Laura Ievers said she did not feel Martin was suitable candidate for bail and remanded him in custody to appear again on March 20.
