A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court following two breaches of bail.

Patrick Weir (25) of Clon Dara in Derry was arrested following a second breach of curfew while on bail for a number of domestic offences against his sister.

Police were initially alerted on July 28 that Weir had broken his curfew. Attending the house later that night, police found the house to be in darkness and received no answer when knocking at the door.

On July 30 police were again alerted that Weir had broken his curfew and arrested him at his home that night.

Weir had initially received High Court bail on July 1 for offences that took place in June.

Police objected to bail as Weir has twenty previous convictions and they say they believe he cannot abide by bail conditions.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that these have been his only breaches of bail, telling the court that the first offence was caused by Weir being in his back garden smoking and inadvertently setting off the alarm.

The second breach, he told the court, happened because Weir had been in Limavady seeing his partner and, upon returning to Derry via bus, had to wait for a taxi to arrive to take him home.

Weir was released on bail and will appear again on September 5.
