Aaron Donnelly (30) of Manorwood in Derry appeared charged with pestering a woman on January 6 this year

A man who was charged with breaching a Prevention of Harassment order has been granted bail at Derry Magistrates' Court.

Aaron Donnelly (30) of Manorwood in Derry appeared charged with pestering a woman on January 6 this year.

The court heard that Donnelly had come to the woman's door with a letter in breach of an order.

Police opposed bail as they said Donnelly was a 'high risk perpetrator' of domestic violence and that there was 'a clear risk of re-offending'.

The officer said that this offence had occurred while the defendant was currently on police bail.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said said the order did not prohibit contact between Donnelly and the woman.

He said there was no threat of violence in the letter and the couple had resumed their relationship before there was a 'falling out'.

Donnelly was released on bail on condition he observes a curfew and is electronically tagged.

He will appear again on January 22.
