Jamie McCarron (30) of Slievemore Park was charged with possession of cocaine and Diazepam while in police custody following a breach of bail

A man has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court on a number of drug charges after breaching his bail conditions at the weekend.

Jamie McCarron (30) of Slievemore Park in Derry was charged with possession of cocaine and Diazepam while in police custody following a breach of bail.

The breach occured after his mother revoked his agreed bail address.

The court heard that while in police custody, police saw a small plastic bag in McCarron's possession containing a white powder.

They also found two different kinds of tablets, one of which was a prescribed medication and the other of which was Diazepam.

When questioned by police, McCarron claimed that the white powder was also medication that he had crushed into powder.

The court heard that McCarron has 24 previous drug convictions and was already on bail for domestic issues.

Police opposed bail as they believe he is at risk of reoffending.

Defence Barrister Michael Donaghey said that McCarron was 'well known to the court's but said that he was only in possession of a 'small amount' of each drug.

Bail was granted and he will appear again on July 11.
