Derry man described as a 'nuisance' and who has 213 previous criminal convictions shouted ‘I want my mummy’ when being moved on by police
A 54-year-old man with 213 previous convictions who drunkenly refused to leave his GP’s surgery shouted ‘I want my mummy’ and ‘rape’ when police attempted to remove him.
Patrick Farren, of Stoneburn Place, appeared before Derry Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour. The offence took place last Wednesday.
Farren also breached bail.
The court heard that at around 4.15pm, police were called to the Waterside Health Centre on Spencer Road where Farren was sitting in reception refusing to leave.
When police arrived to escort him outside he began shouting, ‘I want my mummy’ and ‘rape’.
Police told Farren to calm down but he refused and was arrested for disorderly behaviour.
He also refused to comply with a breath test to ascertain whether he had breached his bail by consuming alcohol on a public place.
Catherine Devlin, defence counsel, said that Farren had entered an early guilty plea and she asked that he be released on bail to return to court on March 6 where he will be facing other charges.
District Judge Barney McElholm said: “He will probably be back tomorrow but I will grant him bail to give him a chance to stay out of trouble until 6 March.
“These are low level offences and the public are not in danger but Mr Farren is a nuisance.”
Farren was granted bail and ordered not to enter the Waterside Health Centre unless he has a pre-arranged appointment.
He will be back before the court again on March 6.
