Derry man jailed for throwing hammer through hostel window

A man has been jailed at Derry Magistrates Court after he admitted two charges of criminal damage.
Martin McAnee, 41, of Clooney Mews, was charged, on October 10, with causing damage to a hostel.
The court heard that police were called to a report of a hammer being thrown through an office window in the hostel.
McAnee was identified on CCTV as being responsible.
When his accommodation was checked it was found that substantial damage had been caused to walls and fixtures.
The overall damage totalled £2,145 and McAnee made a full admission to the offences.
Defence Barrister Eoghan Devlin said that he has been struggling with mental health difficulties and has, in the past, sought without success to get help for it.
McAnee was sentenced to six months in prison.
