Derry man remanded for breaching bail two weeks after being granted it by the High Court

Colm McLaughlin of Farland Way in Derry appeared charged with breaching his bail by being out after his curfew and an alcohol condition
A 19-year-old man has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrate's Court today for breaching his bail two weeks after being granted it by the High Court.
Colm McLaughlin of Farland Way in Derry appeared charged with breaching his bail by being out after his curfew and an alcohol condition.
A police officer told the court that police received a report from the defendant's father to report that his son had not returned in time for his curfew and was in Foyle Street intoxicated.
Police attended and could not locate McLaughlin and went to his home address but he wasn't there.
The officer said that McLaughlin returned home at 6.10am and was arrested.
The court heard that the defendant had been released on bail by the High Court on July 8 with strict conditions.
The police officer said that the defendant had 37 previous convictions and 23 breaches of bail and there was a'clear risk of breaching bail and re-offending '.
The court heard that McLaughlin' s parents seemed to have limited control over the defendant.
Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that the curfew breach was accepted but the alcohol breach was not.
She said McLaughlin's parents would not tolerate him breaching his conditions and she asked for one last chance.
Deputy District Judge Liam McStay said that this breach came 'hot on the heels' of McLaughlin being released by the High Court.
He said that the defendant's parents were 'at the end of their tether.'
He refused bail and remanded McLaughlin in custody to appear again on August 2.
