Derry man warned of 'clanging prison gates' after assaulting police

District Judge Ted Magill issues a stark warning to 43-year-old over assault on police outside his daughter's house
A man has been given a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with being disorderly behaviour outside his daughter's house.
John Paul O'Hagan (43) of Rinmore Drive in Derry admitted two charges one of disorderly and one of assault on police on March 20 this year.
The court was told police received a report from the defendant's daughter that her father was trying to get into the house.
When police arrived O'Hagan was abusive and pushed an officer in the chest and continued to shout despite being warned about his behaviour.
Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that her client used alcohol to cope and accepted responsibility for his actions.
District Judge Ted Magill told O'Hagan that he had 'heard the clanging of prison gates' as he had spent five days in custody and if continued with this behaviour he would spend more time in custody.
O'Hagan was sentenced to three months in prison suspended for 18 months.
