A man who refused to leave his police cell to appear in court has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrate's Court today.

Matthew Anderson (22) of Ballymagowan Avenue in Derry was charged with a series of driving offences and offences against police.

He was charged with dangerous driving at Southway on February 10, failing to stop, failing to provide a breath sample, no insurance and driving while disqualified again all on the same date.

Anderson was also charged with assaulting a police officer, attempted grievous bodily harm with intent on a police officer and resisting police again on February 10.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that his client was refusing to leave his cell to appear in court.

He added that there was no address so there would be no bail application.

Anderson was remanded in custody to appear again on March 7.
