A man who self reported an assault at an address he was not allowed to be at has appeared at Derry Magistrates' Court charged with breaching his bail.

John Meehan (30) of Foyle Road in Derry was on bail for domestic offences since February this year. As part of his bail conditions he was not allowed to be at the address of the injured party.

On March 17, police told how Meehan 'somewhat bizarrely' self-reported an assault at the address.

Meehan told police that he had been assaulted by six people and the officer said that it was 'obvious' from his appearance that he had been assaulted.

Defence Barrister Sinead Rogan said that the six were not connected to the injured party involved in the domestic charges and the court heard that the injured party had not made any complaint against Meehan.

He was released on bail and will appear again on March 19.
