A man who was given a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrate's Court today for possessing class A drugs has been told this was his 'final warning' and if he returned to court for any drug offence he was going to jail.

Dean Darren Declan Dillon (28) of Academy Road in Derry admitted a charge of possessing class A drugs on October 1 and also a charge of theft from Sainsburys on January 17.

The court heard that police were called to Sainsburys at 9.50am on that date and CCTV had shown the defendant lifting vapes valued at £29.50 and leaving without paying.

The court further heard that at 8.30pm on October 1 police were called to a food outlet on William Street after reports of a male collapsing on the premises.

Police attended and found the defendant being treated by ambulance crew.

A subsequent search uncovered a small quantity of class A drugs.

Defence solicitor Conor McGurk said his client had pleaded at the earliest opportunity.

As regards the theft from Sainsburys the solicitor said it was 'low level' and there had be nothing similar since January.

Mr McGurk said that there were clearly 'addiction issues' and added that Dillon was seeking help.

Dillon was sentenced to four months in prison suspended for two years and warned this was his last chance.
