Derry man with 'appalling catalog of offences' given suspended sentence

James Kelly (37) of Rinmore Drive in Derry was arrested after police were called to the scene of a domestic incident
A man has been given a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrates Court charged with drug possession and criminal damage after breaking his mother's window.
James Kelly (37) of Rinmore Drive in Derry was arrested after police were called to the scene of a domestic incident on July 1 this year.
The court heard that Kelly's mother had returned home to find her window broken after Kelly had previously been at her house and had to be told repeatedly to leave due to his abusive behavior.
Police arrived and arrested Kelly, finding a number of pregabalin tablets.
Kelly was also charged with an incident in Brooke Park on June 7 this year after he was reported to be acting in a disorderly manner towards a park ranger.
Upon arrival, police again found a number of pregabalin tablets in his possession and admitted the offences during a police interview.
Defense solicitor Seamus Quigley said that Kelly has since reconciled with his mother and accepted that his actions had been 'disgraceful'.
He added that Kelly has a 'limited enough record'.
Deputy District Judge Laura Ievers said that Kelly had an 'appalling catalog of offences', sentencing him to six months in custody, suspended for two years.
