A Derry charity which supports people suffering from mental health issues has invited people to find out more about its work.

The Clarendon Street Community Wellbeing Service was formerly called the Beacon Centre.

The local organisation is part of Inspire Mental Health which was formerly known as the Northern Ireland Association for Mental Health.

To celebrate the charity’s recent name change, it is hosting a coffee morning to showcase the service within the local community.

People are invited to come along to the charity’s base at 20 Clarendon Street tomorrow, Tuesday, March 14, between 11am-2pm to learn more about this local service.

A spokesperson for the charity said the Beacon Centre has been delivering services in the Foyle area for 25 years.

“Alongside the schedule of groups and activities, the service also provides social support, creative groups; such as art and pottery, 1:1 support, WRAP, Manage the Challenge and DPT skills training and CBT.

“Inspire Mental Health provides 24/7 support services to people with experience of mental ill-health through supported housing, community wellbeing services and advocacy services in a number of locations throughout Northern Ireland.

“Recently, we have expanded our range of supports across the island of Ireland and into the rest of the United Kingdom.

“We have also expanded our operations in recent years, helping us to better achieve our aim of wellbeing for all through our mental health, professional wellbeing, addiction and disability services and we feel our new name helps to better reflect the scope and range of the services we offer.”
