Derry residents urged to be cautious in lead up to Christmas following reports of attempted burglaries

SDLP Councillor Brian Tierney has urged people to be cautious in the lead up to Christmas and as the darker nights approach.

The call comes after Councillor Tierney was made aware of a number of people trying doors in the early hours of the morning in the Woodbrook and Pinetrees area.

Councillor Tierney said: “I have been contacted by residents in the Woodbrook and Pinetrees area who have reported that they have seen a number of men trying to enter homes and vehicles in the early hours of the morning.

"This will obviously raise some concern in the area as there were many similar reports of this type of activity this time last year but residents should check that they have locked up their homes cars and sheds at all times.

"I would also encourage any resident who many feel particular vulnerable to contact their local SDLP office and we can arrange a home safety visit for them.”
