If you are a runner, then the New York City Marathon will definitely be on your bucket list! Why not do something amazing this year and join Team Action Cancer to run the world’s largest marathon on Sunday 5th November 2017.

Local runner Peter Megarrell took part in NYC16 and said: "New York is amazing, this was my first ever marathon, and running through the Big Apple with its towering buildings, iconic bridges, bustling streets and world famous landmarks was just fantastic.”

"I felt very proud to be part of Team Action Cancer along with 18 other runners from Northern Ireland. Together we raised over £30,000 for the charity and the sense of achievement when we crossed the finish line in Central Park was incredible.”

Action Cancer’s Events Officer Arlene Creighton said: “You don’t need to be a super fit athlete to take part in the New York Marathon; all you need is the determination and the desire to make a difference.”

New York is one of the six World Marathon Majors - taking you from Staten Island through the Five Boroughs of New York to the finish in Central Park, it is an experience that stays with our runners for a lifetime.

So whether this is your very first marathon or one of many, you will enjoy the carnival atmosphere with two million people cheering you along the way - in one of the world’s greatest cities.

Arlene said: “Go for it – sign up today – you won’t regret it!” To guarantee your place, all that’s required is your £400 deposit which can be paid in instalments, and then minimum sponsorship of £2,875 to be raised by November 2017.” Action Cancer is Northern Ireland’s leading local cancer charity and all monies raised will fund the charity’s lifesaving services including breast screening, Big Bus mobile unit, M.O.T. health checks, and complementary therapy & counselling support services.
