Derry Siege artefacts found by dog walkers go on display in city
A number of artefacts dating from the Siege of Derry which were found by dog walkers at a building site in the city will go on public display later this week.
The items, which include several musket balls, a number of scythes and medicine bottles were recently uncovered during the construction of a new planned new pedestrian and cycle path at the Creggan Burn Park, close to are known locally as the ‘bywash’.
Many of the items uncovered are believed to date back to the Siege of Derry from 1688-89, including a number of ‘minie balls’, a type of rifle bullet first used in the American Civil War.
The artefacts have now been donated to the Rosemount Historical Society, who will be placing the items on display this Friday at the Rosemount Resource Centre.
