Derry singer Nadine Coyle reveals she suffered serious carbon monoxide poisoning at her former home in LA

The Derry singer and former Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle has revealed how she suffered a prolonged bout of serious carbon monoxide poisoning at her former LA home.
She revealed her own experiences with the deadly gas as part of the Carbon Monoxide - Be Alarmed! campaign which is calling for regular checks of gas appliances and every house to ensure they have a carbon monoxide alarm.
The 30-year-old said that she feared that she had been struck down by a mystery illness in 2010 as she began to experience chest pains and forget simple words.
However, she said that she put her symptoms down to jet lag and her hectic schedule, as she was recording an album at the time.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain (pictured above), she said: “I was renting a house in LA. You don’t really notice it, you’re like “I’m really tired, is it with all the flying around, is it jet lag, am I getting sick, is it a cold, have we got a bug, why are we so tired all the time?”.
‘And then you would forget simple things, we couldn’t remember the word for table. And it was the chest pains, I felt like I couldn’t breathe.’
Nadine added that her mother had also been suffering similar symptoms, and that she then visited a doctor, with blood tests revealing that she had been exposed to high levels of gas.
However, the tests did not reveal that the gas was carbon monoxide.
It was only when an engineer arrived at her home that they discovered there was a crack in the boiler, after which she moved out of the property.
She then began to notice a drastic improvement in her health, and now has three different carbon monoxide detectors in her current home.
She urged people to take similar measures to ensure they are not affected by the potentially deadly gas.
