Derry woman admits slapping healthcare worker

Kelly Anne O'Kane (37) of Holly Lane in Derry admitted one charge of assault that occurred on September 3 2025
A judge at Derry Magistrate's Court has said that 'any assault on hospital staff is taken very seriously' by the courts.
The comments came in the case of a woman who admitted assaulting a member of staff at a medical facility.
Kelly Anne O'Kane (37) of Holly Lane in Derry admitted one charge of assault that occurred on September 3 2025.
The court heard that police responded to a report of an assault on a staff member where O'Kane is a resident.
They were told that staff asked O'Kane to do something and she slapped the staff nurse.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that O'Kane had made full admissions and normally the defendant and this particular staff nurse 'got on well'.
He said that in this case O'Kane took things the wrong way and 'lost her temper.'
The judge said that offences of this nature were taken very seriously and put the case back until July 3 for a pre-sentence report.
