A woman who had bail conditions prohibiting her from the Sackville Street Strand Road area has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrates' Court for breaching her bail.

Courtney Temple (20) of Jefferson Court in the city appeared for breaching her bail by being at Victoria Gate on December 3.

A police officer told the court that the defendant's mother had reported her because she was 'distressed' at her breaching the conditions.

The court heard that the defendant had been seen in this vicinity on several occasions with other street drinkers.

Defence solicitor Conor McGurk said his client wanted to get a taxi and as she had no phone the taxi stand was close to where she was seen.

District Judge Barney McElholm queried as to why she needed a taxi when she was so close to her home address.

He said there was no point in the courts giving people final warnings if they did not act upon them.

He revoked Temple's bail and remanded her in custody to appear again on January 2.
