Derry woman deemed 'too high a risk to be let out into the community'

Bail denied for 30-year-old due to high risk of reoffending
Derry Magistrate's Court heard today that a local woman was 'too high a risk to be let out into the community'.
Cherish Devine (30) of Abercorn Road in Derry appeared charged with assaulting a police officer on July 19.
She was also charged with breaching her bail by being intoxicated in breach of her conditions.
The court was told Devine contacted police by phone and when they contacted her back she shouted down the phone 'f--k the police'.
When police found her she was found to be intoxicated with a reading of 101mgs with the legal limit for driving being 35mgs.
The assault was said to have occurred when the defendant kicked an officer.
Bail was opposed due to the risk of reoffending.
Defence counsel Stephen Chapman said his client had 'a major issue with alcohol' which she was seeking treatment for.
He asked for bail to allow Devine to attend a residential course.
District Judge Suzanne Rice said that the defendant had 'an appalling criminal record' with numerous suspended sentences.
She said that the court could not be satisfied that Devine would abide by conditions.
Bail was refused and Devine was remanded in custody to appear again for a pre-sentence report on September 4.
