A woman has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with breaching a restraining order.

Marianna Boyle (57) of Glenbank Gardens was charged following a complaint from her brother to police that she had broken a restraining order when she went past his house.

Boyle claimed that the breach was unintentional and that she was simply walking past the house to get to a friend's address.

Defence Barrister Stephen Chapman said that Boyle had 'no intention' of causing distress to her brother, adding that she had a number of difficulties, including issues with alcohol.

He also told the court that the restraining order that was in place has now expired.

District Judge Barney McElhom fined her £750 and imposed another restraining order, in place for two years.
