Derry woman fined £500 for assaulting neighbour

Margaret Ann Leighton (61) of Clonmeen Drive in Derry appeared and admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour and one of assault
A dispute between neighbours resulted in a woman being fined at Derry Magistrate's Court today.
Margaret Ann Leighton (61) of Clonmeen Drive in Derry appeared and admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour and one of assault that occurred on September 30 last.
The court heard that police were called to a dispute between neighbours after an alleged assault was captured by door camera.
Police decided to arrest Leighton's partner and she intervened and was seen moving towards the neighbour as if to assault her.
Leighton was described as being 'highly irate' and was shouting in the street.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that the neighbours had fallen out over children fighting but 'the parents were worse'.
He said that hopefully there would be no repetition of the incident.
Leighton was fined £500.
