A youth has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with criminal damage and attempted criminal damage and having breached his bail.

The youth, who cannot be named due to his age, was charged with the offences and one of assault that were said to have occurred on July 20.

The court heard that the youth was on bail on condition he does not enter Heron Way in the city or have contact with his mother.

A police officer said that the youth had actually been arrested in Heron Way in breach of his bail and the new offences were said to have occurred in that vicinity.

The court heard that police were called after the youth was alleged to have thrown stones at windows in the area.

A police officer said that he believed the youth had been released from custody and had gone to the Heron Way address.

Defence counsel Grainne McAnaney said she believed her client had been living at an address approved by Social Services.

Deputy District Judge Philip Mateer said that the youth had been granted bail and had returned to the address he was prohibited from going to.

He said while there was a presumption for bail in thus case he was refusing bail and remanded the youth in custody to appear again in early August at the next youth court.
