Derry’s historic City Walls poised for state of LUXe

Internationally renowned local theatre company LUXe will bring their ‘Awakening The Walls’ street performance back to the City Walls this Halloween as part of Derry City and Strabane District Council’s ‘Out of this World’ celebrations.
The Burnfoot based group are inviting the public to take an evening stroll and discover the frights and delights within their beautiful illuminations by local and visiting artists.
The show’s latest incarnation, entitled ‘Lifting the Veil’, will run for an extra night this year from Friday 28th until Sunday 30th October.
“’Lifting the Veil’ is a far bigger show than our fiery installation on Grand Parade last year,” a spokesperson for LUXe revealed.
“The performance deals with the space between worlds that we sometimes glimpse in the half light. The space between up and down, between night and day, between the now and the next.
“More than 30 people are involved in rigging, operating, dressing, lighting, feeding, as well as performing in the show and it’s a massive undertaking to make it happen.
“Some have travelled long distances, all need fed and beds and fitted with costume. All need organised and kept happy so that they can make the show work and keep the audience smiling and safe.”
Spectators are advised to enter the walls through the Cathedral gates on London Street for the show which runs each night from 6.00pm to 8.30pm.
Admission is free and the performance is considered family orientated and suitable for all ages.
