There was a fantastic turnout of history enthusiasts in Derry’s Guildhall Square this weekend to mark one of the most significant events of World War II, the surrender of the German U-Boat fleet at Lisahally.

72 years after the boats made their way up the Foyle signalling the end of the Battle of the Atlantic, staff at the Guildhall and Tower Museum stepped back in time with some vintage styling to commemorate the event.

There were talks, exhibits, fashion advice and even a World War II Spitfire on display, highlighting what was one of the most colourful and cultural eras of local history when Derry was considered a strategic location for an array of Allied Troops from around the globe.
