Final call to nominate for community Clipper Race Bursary

The final call has gone out for nominations for the Voice of the Community Bursary Scheme that offers a lifetime opportunity to two local people to take part in a leg of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race on board the Derry “LondonDerry” Doire yacht.

Community organisations across the Derry City and Strabane District Council area have until noon on Monday next, 8 June, to put forward nominations of those who have made a notable contribution to the life of their community and who they think would be a suitable ‘Voice of the Community’ in the race.

Encouraging people to get behind this campaign, Mayor McCallion said this was a superb opportunity for someone to avail of sail training and represent their city and district on board the local yacht in the Clipper 2015-16 Round the World Yacht Race.

She said: “Maybe you know someone who through the work they do with the voluntary or community sector and who are truly deserving of this opportunity.

“Or maybe it is someone you work with who goes that extra mile to help others or to help their local community and is your unsung hero. We want to hear about anyone who you think is deserving of this once in a lifetime adventure and would be a good community representative.”
