Former Met Police officer charged with breaching bail

Former member of the Metropolitan Police appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with breaching his bail by attempting to contact a woman who has a non molestation order against him
A former member of the Metropolitan Police has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with breaching his bail by attempting to contact a woman who has a non molestation order against him.
The man who was granted anonymity due to the danger as a result of his former employment was charged with breaching his bail on March 8.
The court heard that the alleged victim in the case contacted police to say that a friend of hers had been contacted by the defendant claiming to be a cousin.
The defendant said he believed the woman had moved and he was looking for her new address.
The friend did not give him the details and told the woman who was fearful the defendant was 'observing' her and was trying to find out where she lived.
A police officer said that the defendant had followed the woman here from England.
Bail was opposed due to the general risk of re-offending and interference with witnesses.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that his client had no breaches of bail and no record.
He said that his client claimed he was trying to find out if she had moved away from Magherafelt so he could get permission to enter that town.
District Judge Oonagh Mullan said that the defendant should have been aware of his bail conditions.
She said she would grant bail again but with a final warning.
The defendant will appear again later this month.
