Free Fire Festival planned for Féile 2017 finale at The Gasyard

A spectacular fire festival for all the family will bring Féile 2017 to a close on Tuesday 15th August.
Following the success of their fire show at Féile 2016, LUXe return to the Gasyard Park for a spectacular evening of unique and beautiful fire featuring collaborations with local young people and international artists.
As a company LUXe enjoy making shows for audiences from Tory Island to Hong Kong and are developing new work with Island communities in Northern Norway as well as celebrating in style across Ireland.
The Return of the Phoenix will unfold a story of Celtic Mythology through beautiful fiery images, physical performance and Irish Music and build towards the lighting of a large sculptural bonfire, fireworks and the ascending fire bird.
The event will also feature a stunning music lineup that will include headline performances from The Strypes and Kíla as well as performances from four of Derry’s best acts, Roe, Scenery, Lavengro and Luke Mac who are tipped for global success by the music press.
Two things invaded every inch of magazine space about The Strypes in their early days -their frighteningly young age (they had supported the Arctic Monkeys and played on David Letterman’s chat show by the age of 17), and the fact that plenty of household names (Elton John, Dave Grohl and Paul Weller) are devoted fans of their music.
Since June 2011, the band have been launching their explosive R&B assault on clubs and festivals around the world. After signing to Rocket Music following a phone call from Elton John, the band soon after signed a deal with Virgin/EMI.
The label released their debut album September 2012, which landed in the Top 5 in the UK and Ireland. They were invited to perform on Later with Jools Holland and were dubbed as the ‘hottest new band in the UK’ by the NME. Their third album ‘Spitting Image’ was released earlier this year to massive critical acclaim.
Kíla's sound has been described as ‘Trad meets Irish Rave and back again..’ Hailed as one of Ireland’s most innovative and exciting bands, Kíla are widely renowned for their energetic live performances which have seen them continue to wow and attract new audiences over the years.
Kíla have played at some of the biggest venues and festivals in the world in over 30 countries including Womad, Glastonbury Festival, Sigzet Festival Budapest, Montreaux Jazz Festival in recent years.
This event is free of charge and alcohol free and will run from 6pm - late. Admission is free.
Féile 2017 is funded by Derry City Council Community Festivals Fund, the Urban Villages Initiative, a key action within the Northern Ireland Executive’s ‘Together: Building a United Community’ Strategy; and is a collaboration of a multitude of groups, initiatives, volunteers and residents from throughout the Bogside, Brandywell, Creggan, Bishop Street and Fountain areas who come together each year to shape and manage the programme of events.
