The Ryan McBride Foundation aims to encourage and support young football talent.
The foundation will try to help the youngsters fulfil their sporting dreams.
The initiative was officially launched at an event in the Everglades Hotel on Saturday night.
Performers on the night included local stars Phil Coulter and Damien McGinty.
During the evening, Phil performed a song he has written in honour of Ryan McBride.
He then presented a framed copy of the song to the footballer’s father Lexie.
There was an auction on the night to raise money for the foundation.
Sports star from through Ireland and further afield donated items for the auction.
Among the items donated was a jersey from Everton player Seamus Coleman and gloves from boxer Carl Frampton.
Former Leeds United and Republic of Ireland Johnny Giles was a special guest at the event and took part in a question and answer sessions with Derry City star Liam Coyle.
